Yup, things are going SO well that I have been too busy enjoying life with the kids to update the blog. Sorry, but a mom has got to do what a mom has got to do and enjoy the kids is on top of the list when the weather is nice! Spring is peeking in and life is good!
I am so proud to report that things have really leveled out to what I would call normal. Between the BAX treatments and our new antimicrobial choices (LDM-100 and BioRay's Cytoflora) we are seeing really consistent and NORMAL days more often than not. In addition to this, we are chelating every weekend now! He is handling that absolutely phenomenallly!! I was thinking about the improvements we have seen since starting the BioVeda BAX3000 treatments and just can't believe how impressive this stuff is. It's so impressive that I even started treatment for myself. I tested for items in Procedure 1 and the following came up as reactive for me: citric acid, B6, sodium chloride mix, thyrotropin (thyroid hormone known as TSH), platinum (my wedding bands!), silver, white popcorn, menthol (I use mint soaps and put peppermint oil in my home made cleaning products), and chalone. The last two are in the phenols group. Considering I struggle with adult acne, badly, the thyroid hormone and the sodium chloride are particularly interesting to me. With my testing, my first treatment was a brain balancing treatment. I walked in the office feeling fine and within an hour of my treatment, I was suddenly congested in the nose, had burning in my eyes and nose and my head was pounding bad enough to almost be a migraine. Needless to say, they were all gone the next morning.
And to just recap the things that have improved for Grayson since starting treatment:
- The foods he was reacting severely to that he can now eat with NO problems - egg and corn
- Vitamins that he once reacted to with aggression and/or irritation he can now tolerate - B vitamins and calcium
- We have had to give him No Fenol (an enzyme) to address high fenol foods and many of his antimicrobials that are also very high phenol, because he was getting red ears and responding with hyperactivity which is a common phenol sensitivity reaction. Well, he has not been given a single No Fenol enzyme since his last phenol treatment!
- Since treating for DMSA and ALA, his chelation has been going so well that we have picked up the pace and are now doing it every weekend and we have even been able to increase his ALA without incident. His dosing has been incredibly low, because of his inability to handle it until now! We will be going into round 23 and are so excited about how promising this is!
- His bloating has come down considerably and remains this way 90% of the time.
- And best of all, his moods have been much more consistent than ever before...probably because he is no longer reacting to EVERY little thing he comes into contact with.
We are at the stage of testing for Procedure 2, with both boys, and I just can't WAIT!!! We will know what foods are stressing his system and then we will, of course, treat for them. If anyone reading this is even considering this type of treatment and you are on the fence, I say with resounding confidence, DO IT! Don't think about it anymore, just do it! You most definitely will not regret the decision. Then do yourself a favor, stick to the guidelines laid out for the treatment, everyone will benefit from the follow through.
Being mom to a child with several food sensitivities identifies me with a new world, one of caution and education. I never knew reading labels and ingredients could become second nature, who knew that artificial colors and additives could create time bombs, that wheat and dairy could turn a child into a tantrum whirlwind...learn about our journey into the new world of food sensitivities and what they mean. THIS WAS ONLY THE BEGINNING!

More on the BioVeda BAX3000 - reintroduction of corn
The two foods Grayson reacted most severely and obviously to, were egg and corn. If you read about our early days with treatment, you know that we have very successfully reintroduced eggs into Grayson's diet, although we do still rotate all of his foods, so we don't end up with new sensitivities, and now....CORN!! Woooot woooot!! I have given him blue corn chips two days in a row so far. And this time I started much slower, a bite, then a full chip....he's doing perfectly fine with them. My next test will be pop corn, I can't wait to give him popcorn with virgin coconut oil on his coconut days!! What a treat!! In addition to the major foods, we have also treated for some interesting things like alkaline, stomach acids, digestive enzymes, etc. These are all things I suspect are issues for Grayson, considering they are all rooted in the GI problems he was having. Not to get too graphic, but I must add that since his treatments, his bowel movements have been beautiful!! I know, beautiful probably isn't a word you would use in the same sentence as bowel movement, but if you saw some of the things we have seen....they truly ARE beautiful now! He always had undigested foods and some form of either looseness or even the strangest fluffy diarrhea and some would start out looking constipated and shift to loose all in the same movement, but I will stop there, just in case you are eating lunch. You get my point though, right? Perfect, perfect poop! Something to be proud of, because I have to believe that to some degree, this is a sign that things are moving in the right direction, no pun intended, he he he. Perhaps the leaky gut is healing, he is most definitely digesting foods more appropriately and the consistency and color indicate sufficient bile, even through chelation rounds which, in the past, have resulted in very pale tones in the beige family.....not enough bile.
So moving on, I just wanted to share yet another absolutely amazing sign that the BAX3000 is a necessity to the autism community. A woman contacted me through Generation Rescue, where I am a Rescue Angel, about her son who was recently diagnosed as autistic. He doesn't speak, doesn't make eye contact, plays alone and of course, has a multitude of sensitivities. Since she was local, I mentioned this treatment to her and she wasted no time, she had an appointment the very next day, impressive!! After only three treatments so far, he went from being irritated, crying and fighting during treatments to calm, happy and get this, he has not only made eye contact and smiled at various people in the office, but he has spoken!! He even said "bye-bye" while looking directly in the doctor's eyes. Three treatments, THREE!! This is not to say that he is done, he has a long road of treatments ahead of him and I believe this technology can do wonders, but I also believe in the big picture. This mother is also watching his diet very closely, he is GFCF, he is being properly supplemented with vitamins and minerals, she is removing toxins in their home and he is being treated naturally for any other pathogenic infections when they are present. Have you ever wondered why the logo for Autism is a piece of a puzzle?

Chelation Round 20
Before we started this round, we had Grayson treated for DMSA and ALA on the BAX3000, in addition to that, he was treated for yeast, and the three bacterias that showed up on his recent stool test: clostridia, strep and e.coli. This should ultimately reduce his sensitivities to these organisms.
I don't know, if it's the fact that we have hit 20 rounds of chelation or having his sensitivities reduced for the things which most often cause him major irritation, but let me tell you, this round resulted in change! We are seeing an amazing little spitfire of a personality unravel in the process. In fact, just today, we were at the health food store where he was carrying his own little child-sized bin of groceries. As he was putting them up on the counter, he looked the cashier directly in the face and said, "We can't forget the milk thistle, of course!" with such enthusiasm and proper pronunciation. Her response was, "You don't hear THAT every day out of a child!" How many kids even know what milk thistle is or that they need it replaced? And each patron he passed in front of, he would say, "Excuse me please", all of this unprompted by me. He is so polite, creative, bright, determined, independent, silly and sensitive, such endearing personality traits that are often clouded by a haze of illness. The kind of illness that most people don't recognize. Neurological illnesses aren't recognized quite as readily as say a child with Down Syndrome, who very obviously has physical traits marking the illness. Children like mine appear normal from the outside, they function normal to the average person...so when they have a disproportionate meltdown in a store or at a friend's house, it's tagged as the parent's fault for not disciplining the child better or even worse, excused as part of the "age". I am truly appalled by the number of parents who excuse behavior like this as normal. What is normal anyway? It's what we, as a society, have allowed our ill-diets to create. The more we hear other people say that "it's normal, our son/daughter behaves like that too", the more we sit back and allow that justification to let us do nothing about it. It's how evolution works, ever so slowly. As we get sicker and sicker (with pollution and toxins invading our environment and bodies) we are more neurologically effected. These children are the worst case scenario, but it's all around us in adults too, int he face of mental illnesses, autoimmune diseases, Chronic Fatigue, Lyme and the such. Even with all of the sharing we do with family and friends, it's as if much of what we say isn't believable, that is, until they experience our children before and after an antimicrobial treatment. You can't deny what you see with your own eyes!
This round has ended so well that we may continue with chelation this coming weekend! We typically skip a weekend between rounds, because he takes a good week to regulate after the round, but this time, he has been perfect, better than ever before! We want to pick up the pace, using his cues that he can handle it, in the hopes of getting much of his recovery under our belts, before Kindergarten starts in the fall. We have been at this for over a year and a half now, yes, it's a long process. It takes years to get like this, it will take years to un-do all the damage that has been done.
There are a few things we have added or changed in our treatment protocol recently and I believe they hold a piece of the puzzle. We added a new probiotic called Custom Probiotic which offers over 200 billion CFUs per dose, that many organisms HAS to have some effect on the bad guys! He wakes up great each morning with an absolutely flat tummy, I've never seen him looking so skinny!! We have also added Berberine and LDM-100 which I believe have both really knocked down some of the gut pathogens. We are working up very slowly on the LDM-100, because that is some potent stuff, but even at the low, slow introduction, I really think it is making it's mark in our regimen. Our next step will be a parasite cleanse with Humaworm.
Little by little, we are tearing away the layers. I am grateful to have this opportunity to heal my child!

Interesting change of events
Since I wrote about our BAX update this morning, things have taken a turn for the worse and it has been dramatic enough that I am going to write about it, because we are wondering if the BAX has something to do with it. As I mentioned earlier, they had the best morning in a long time, which is pretty typical of the post treatment days. As the day progressed though, I started seeing our yeasty signs and before I knew it, we were up to our eyeballs in two yeasty kids!! Between the two of them I saw a lot of running back and forth, throwing themselves on the floor, the couch and anything around them, loud voices, spinning, the baby was VERY bloated, tip-toe walking a lot and only partially responding to his name being called...Grayson was talking non-stop, couldn't focus, scattered, making up words and laughing hysterically at himself, asking a LOT of questions, but not listening to answers, couldn't answer simple questions and by the end of the night the emotions were in full swing which of course means he is wired up in his room rather than sleeping. On our way home from tonight's treatment he was getting hot and itchy, which is our usual sign of severe die-off. Hubby and I were thinking about how this occurred so suddenly with no other changes to his diet, supplements or anti-microbials and all we could think was that perhaps the BAX treatment for yeast caused some sort of healing crisis or die-off. It will be interesting to see how he progresses from here.
Noticing trends with BAX3000 treatment, the latest
We have been through 12 treatments with the BioVeda BAX3000 so far and I am beginning to see trends that follow our treatments. Last night Grayson was treated for yeast and he added in DMSA and ALA to help with chelation. We are SO excited to see how our next round goes. Anyway, about the trends...every time we have a treatment, the next day results in a FLAT tummy and a healthy independence that isn't there regularly. Today, Grayson actually went up to his room alone in the early part of the day. He has never done this, never! He is usually attached to me at the hip. He said he was going to have some quiet time, he politely asked for a drink of water to take and he and his Leapster 2 went upstairs!! He spent at least 30-45 minutes up there alone. Wow! Then he came down to play with Gavin and I in the playroom where he proceeded to play WITH Gavin nicely, no demands, no taking toys....interacting appropriately and so nicely! He is also responding to my requests really well, no arguing, no crying...this is big!!
We have also treated for corn and I can't wait to see how the reintroduction of corn goes. We currently don't have anything with corn in it to give him, but as soon as we do, we plan on trying it out. Dr. Herman advised us recently to go VERY slow, as in - just bites at a time, to watch for reaction. I guess we learned that the hard way when we offered a plate piled with eggs after his egg treatment, lol. We immediately saw the behavior changes that normally follow eating eggs. I thought the treatment wasn't working, as you can see from my blog that day, however, after 4 incorrectly large attempts, we saw the amazing changes, NO REACTION!! We have even given him 2-3 eggs at a time and twice in one day, still no reaction. His body officially recognizes eggs as safe!
We have also been treating our younger son who recently had a major case of eczema, all over his thighs that was spreading daily. It was red, puffy and inflamed every day, even with my attempts to use the "soak and seal" bath remedy, lotion with every diaper change, I even tried Lotrimin, thinking it might be a fungal rash. Oddly, it wasn't anywhere in his diaper area, just all around it, then it even started spreading up and around his belly, over the top of the diaper!! It seemed like there was something new every time I changed his diaper, but never IN the diaper area. When we went to a BAX treatment last week, I showed this to our doctor who added "homeopathic eczema" to the treatment, he also used the laser directly on his lesions. I kid you not, the eczema has literally begun to dry up since then!! The spots that were red and inflamed are now skin colored dry spots. They aren't all gone yet, but some of the smaller spots are and the larger areas are looking great for the first time in many weeks!! My sister even witnessed this, she saw him before, saw his treatment at the doctor's office and saw how it lightened immediately following treatment.

Wow!
All I can say is WOW! I am speechless tonight. Grayson spent ALL day with a flat tummy, eating both eggs and grains, two things that have ALWAYS caused major irritation in the past. He had moments of irritation throughout the day, like any kid, but nothing that carried on beyond normal. He was able to regulate himself frequently, even at times with things got crazy. We had friends over and at one point we were swinging all of the kids around in blankets together, banging them into cushions, getting silly. In the past, he would have gotten wild and wouldn't have been able to calm himself down. Tonight, he was perfect, literally PERFECT! Then tonight, for almost an hour, he played by himself in his play room, building "sloops, dingies and motor boats" while listening to a Winnie the Pooh CD story. Then he came out, about a half an hour past his normal bedtime, which is actually pretty early, because he gets tired and emotional so early most nights, he sat between his father and I calmly while playing one Leapfrog game until bedtime. He went up to bed easily, without a fight, still smiling. All I can say is, I can live like this....it brings tears to my eyes to even consider having days and nights like this more often than not! If Dr. Herman can bring a reality like this to us, we will forever be indebted to him!

NAET on steroids!!
A friend of ours has turned us onto a new path, which may potentially change our lives, forever! She told me she enrolled her son into a research study regarding something called BioVeda Bax 3000. We were lucky enough to also be accepted into this study and are so grateful to the generous Doctor doing this study!! With all of the costs associated with caring for our son, we never would have had the opportunity to try this treatment. We are also very thankful to be a part of something that could change the face of autism in the future!
We had already begun using NAET treatments, which is the process of eliminating allergies by retraining the body to recognize allergens as safe. This process is manual, however, allowing for human error. So how does the BioVeda Bax 3000 differ?
First, let me explain a little bit about how allergies work, VERY basically. When a person is sensitive to a substance, wheat for instance, there is an increase in stress of the central nervous system and, because of our body's innate way of drawing connections, even the word "wheat" or the mere thought of it, can cause the same anxiety, believe it or not. This anxiety produces an inappropriate response by the central nervous system which in some people, depending on the allergies, can result in more severe cases, such as autoimmunity.
So here is my layman's explanation of this new device. It takes the same basic premise that NAET is built on and uses a digitized library of substances such as: foods, metals, vaccines, fungi, chemicals, and many other environmental substances. The technology imitates the frequencies of these substances and instigates nervous system responses from the body to determine what the person is reacting to. The treatment retrains the body by causing it to release endorphins while encountering the substance in question....essentially saying, "this is safe". It erases the body's inappropriate desire to attack the substance. This process is a combination of positive conditioning and biofeedback. When the stressful event occurs in the real world, the relaxation training is remembered by the central nervous system and the result is the elimination of this inappropriate reaction to every day substances.....viola, allergy GONE! This whole thing is associated with stress and the Bax 3000 ultimately reduces stress through relaxation training.
Last night we had our first meeting with the Doctor conducting the study and he told us that our case is considered severe (big surprise) and, because of the sheer number of allergies we are dealing with, we are going to start by treating for ALL of the substances in the first phase protocol. That should take us through about 25 treatments, then we will test for the need of further treatments more specifically. So we jumped right in and treated for egg last night. Why egg, you ask? Well, because egg is one of the more common sensitivities and it happens to be a protein that most resembles human protein. Do you see what could happen to an individual with an egg allergy? Do you think the body could eventually have the ability to be allergic to itself...AKA - autoimmunity! Really makes you wonder, doesn't it?
Now where were we....oh yeah, A cold laser holds the frequency that our body would recognize as egg and it is run from the forehead over the head and down the spine repeatedly while encouraging various changes in brain waves (ie - holding breath, breathing out, closing eyes, etc), then pressure points on the hands and feet are held for a period of time. This is the process of inducing the release of endorphins while the body is in contact with "egg"...or so it thinks! It's important to note that even with decreased or the elimination of symptoms, a blood test will most likely continue to show antibodies to these substances, because the body tends to hold onto antibodies for a long time. It's the symptoms that are more telling of what is happening in the body, since this is our natural alarm system. No symptoms = no no need for alarm!
So before I tell you how this treatment effected Grayson, let me give you an idea of what is involved in preparing for the treatment. There are a lot of guidelines to follow, which for an adult might seem easy, but for our kids....some could be more complicated.
- don't wear dark clothing (not sure why)
- don't take ANY supplements or medications for FOUR hours before the appointment. This is VERY hard for us considering Grayson requires treatment with anti-microbials every three hours in order to avoid symptoms and we give high dose probiotics at bedtime.
- drink lots of water for 24 hours before the visit
- don't wear anything tight
- don't wear jewelry
- no pain medication for 12 hours before (hard to abide by with a teething child!)
- don't consume alcohol (need to keep the kids away from the booze!!)
- no perfumes, strong smelling deodorant, essential oils, hand lotions, colognes, etc.
Then there is the list of things to avoid AFTER the appointment
- they must fast for 6 hours after the treatment (which is why we schedule our appts. for RIGHT before bedtime)
- you may not, shop for 8 hours, go to a restaurant, visit hair salons, barber shops, etc.
- avoid all chemicals for 12 hours, like gasoline, so refuel before the appointment
- do not bathe or shower for 8 hours
- do not chew gum, use breath mints, drink anything except water after arriving for the visit
- avoid massage, acupuncture, vigorous exercise, hot tub, sauna, steam room, swimming...all for 12 hours after treatment
- again, we have to keep the kids from hitting up the bottle for 12 more hours....darn! It helps them sleep at least, ha ha ha....just kidding, OF COURSE!
- and then there may be an additional list of things to avoid, depending on what you are being treated for. For example, the egg mixture includes poultry, feathers, and tetracycline (an antibiotic)
So now for the before and after effects we witnessed. I have to add that I could be over analyzing, but for at least a week before treatment, we were seeing a lot of old behaviors cropping back up, like sleeplessness including hyperactivity right before bed making the bedtime routine challenging, trouble relaxing and falling asleep, and multiple nightmares after midnight. He was beginning to sleep in very late (9:30am) because of the many nightly disturbances he was experiencing. His daily behaviors were increasingly getting worse too. There was an increase in frustration and defiance, he was becoming very negative, everything he said came with an err of irritation rather than just being able to speak to us, even simply talking to us was becoming a challenge. He would actually stomp, grunt and cry throughout it all. His tolerance threshold was nil and sensory seeking was back big-time! His interactions with his brother were becoming mean and vindictive, something I have no patience for, I might add. He was also showing signs of increased hyperactivity, verging on the edge of manic. He was throwing himself all over furniture, into people, onto the floor, he started rubbing things with the backs of his hands a lot, swatting at his head and ears, which we haven't seen in ages....the list goes on and on.
SO....we went into the appointment with him acting VERY hyper, attention-seeking and he was severely bloated and I mean like pregnant looking (even the Dr. commented on it and we took pictures). While we were trying to talk to the Dr. he was tossing books on the floor, instigating his brother, saying "no" to us when we discretely asked him to stop some of these things. He sat through the treatment VERY well though, probably because he was on daddy's lap and he saw his younger brother go through treatment before him. When we left the office, he still seemed a bit hyper and testy, but by the time we got home, he was mellow and happy. For the first time in probably a week or more, he was CALM and happy and not challenging his father every step of the way through his bedtime routine. He wasn't running everywhere, he walked!! He came and hugged Gavin and I without a battle. After he was put to bed, he only came out of his room once to tell me that he "heard bells" thinking Santa was already in the sky, ha ha ha! Then he stayed in bed, fell asleep easily and STAYED asleep all night! He woke fairly early, but was happy...maybe too happy! He was still showing some signs of being extremely hyper, but I thought it was interesting that he was controlled in the process of being bouncy and happy. He played well with his brother, teaching him and actually interacting with him, responding to his needs. They went to the playroom on their own (he's been SO clingy lately, this was amazing) where he found a building kit that he hasn't played with in ages and he built a colorful and very accurate caterpillar from it, all the while, allowing his brother to play WITH him! For the first time in a LONG time, I didn't hear Gavin crying from the other room.
Enter eggs (dun, du du dunnnnn) - After his NAET treatment for egg, I tried eggs twice and both times, he immediately became even MORE uncontrollably hyper and irritable, as hard as that is to imagine, it's even harder to live with. I had told a few other people that I didn't think it worked. My husband thought maybe we would see less and less of a reaction over time...? I didn't feel willing to go through those after-effects again and again. Well, this morning we tried eggs and let me tell you, he ate a LOT, probably 2-3 eggs, easily. He kept asking for more. His behaviors remained consistent with his waking behaviors. So while he didn't get less hyper (he is still fidgety), he is still playing nicely and being patient and affectionate with his brother, he is talking nicely, he is independent, he is even more flexible with changes in his expectations, in the past he would have major outbursts and end up crying.
So could this be a coincidence? Sure it can. The only way to know for sure is to watch the way things progress with additional treatments. I have to say though, I am already impressed. Here's to hoping (cheers).
Merry Christmas to those who celebrate it!
